Eco-Melaleuca Premium Mulch

Our premium Melaleuca Mulch has been inspected and certified by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Plant Industry, to be free of burrowing nematodes. This mulch is made from 100% clean Melaleuca logs, shredded to 1 ½” minus in size then cured for at least 120 days to kill any Melaleuca seeds.

Melaleuca was tested by the University of Florida, who determined that “Both Melaleuca wood and mulch were not eaten by the termites” (Landscape Mulches: Will Subterranean Termites Consume Them? By Mary L. Duryea, University of Florida).

Help Save Florida Wetlands!

Melaleuca, also known as the punk tree or paper bark tea tree, is native to Australia. Melaleuca was introduced to Florida in the 1920’s to dry up the wetlands, but has become increasingly invasive to many natural wetland and upland areas, including the Florida Everglades. Melaleuca has taken over hundreds of thousands of acres of Florida’s Everglades and killed off vital native species to Florida. Prevention of further loss from degradation of wetlands is essential in the restoration of south Florida’s ecosystem. When Melaleuca is purchased instead of Cypress, for example you help Melaleuca-infested areas return to a more natural state by creating space for native species, like Cypress. By purchasing Melaleuca mulch, you are in effect helping to restore

the Cypress population and Florida’s Wetlands!
